About Us ...

The string quartet “Douro” proposes the dissemination of this “golden” repertoire, in a current interpretive vision, paying particular attention to stylistic authenticity.

Consisting of Radu Ungureanu and Gaspar Santos, on violins, Jean-Loup Lecomte, on alto, and Hrant Yeranosyan, on cello, the string quartet “Douro” was born as a consequence of the practical combination of musical affinities, but also of personalities with different characteristics, of the four instrumentalists.

Among the various musical genres covered, the string quartet occupies a privileged place.

Its homogeneity, ensured by the four instruments, belonging to the same family (of the strings rubbed), as well as the extensive range of technical and expressive capacities, offered a fertile field of action to composers from various eras.

Founded in the middle of the 18th century, the string quartet quickly conquered the place of choice among the means available to express musical thoughts.

Composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bartók - and many others - created, throughout their lives, their most significant masterpieces precisely in this musical genre.

Quarteto Douro was a resident group at the Museu do Douro, Régua (2009-2010) in a series of 15 concerts.

Presented at the European Capital of Culture 2012 in Guimarães.

With concerts all over the country since 2008. Participated in festivals in Aveiro, Viseu, etc ..

Presentation in Aveiro of the work of the composer Armando Santiago (resident in Canada) (2016) and registration on CD (2019).
